While the winter “season” offers refuge from the cold, summertime offers its own special experiences. Guests have witnessed loggerhead turtles nest in front of the house from May 1 to October 31. There’s an unobstructed sweeping view of the Gulf that spans from the north Venice jetty to Siesta Key and showcases spectacular sunsets. Casey Key is a small, narrow barrier island that provides privacy, quiet, and an abundance of wildlife. Dolphins, manatees and tarpon migrate offshore. Osprey and pelicans put on a show soaring and diving for fish. Ibis, egrets and sandpipers are just a few of the species that scamper and feed in the shoreline. The tides will wash up mounds of seashells, as well as prehistoric shark teeth. Although there isn’t a dock, there’s room for a boat trailer with public launches to the north and south, both approximately 3 miles away. Monthly rentals have priority, but will consider weekly rentals. One week rate: $5,000; two-week rate: $8,250; three-week rate: $11,000. Rentals of less than six months are subject to 13% tax.
